Dear Charles

Thank you for visiting the "College Fjord" post. BOTH College Fjord and the Klondike Goldrush are so very interesting. What a treasure that your grandfather was a part of the Klondike rush! I hope he shared stories with you. 90% of the men and women who made that unbelievable trek never found any gold, BUT the fact that they actually made it is absolutely incredible. The odds were stacked against them both from the weather and the media. If you have any stories to share, I would love to read them.

For years, I've been lecturing and narrating about them on Alaska cruises.<br />
There are several other posts on this site which I hope you enjoy.

Another fantastic article Kathy. Thank you for the Blog and the amazing photos - so cold and yet so beautiful. I heard on the news two days ago that Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance, lost since 1915, was found off Antarctica. An expedition that set out in search of the lost ship of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton has found it — 106 years after the vessel sank off Antarctica. I also heard that the ship is in incredibly good condition. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventure travels.

Needless to state I enjoyed reading another of Kathy's gems. I always thought of Alaska as a vast wilderness of white... the reality is something very different and as you pointed out Alaska is a true "collage of color". Full blown Fireweed is quite a sight to see! Something else novel to me is the large size of vegetables. It makes a lot of sense because even though the warm weather is of short duration you have days of 24-hour sun. Most interesting article as always. Thanks for sharing.
