Alaska's Abundant Land Wildlife

Travels with Kathy Slamp

Welcome to TravelswithKathySlamp.com! When I was a young four-year old, my parents took me on my first BIG travel adventure.  It was BIG, and my travels have continued ever since!  In a 1947 Hudson we drove from San Antonio, Texas to Seattle, Washington.  (That was before the Interstate system), AND my younger brother was only two weeks old at the time!  From Seattle we flew via Pan American to Fairbanks, Alaska, which became my childhood home.

As I grew, my parents continued their wanderlust. So, with my parents I traveled throughout the entire United States. As an adult I continue to follow the wind, traveling thousands of air, land, and sea miles to dozens of worldwide destinations. The varied travels in this blog are my way of sharing the joy received through them. It’s a personal delight to present them to you!

Just for grins, you might like to link to one of these blogs right now:  Glacier Bay, the Most Beautiful Place on Earth.

More about Travelswithkathyslamp!

For 13 seasons it was my privileged to work with Princess Cruises as their on-board Naturalist. Narrating on cruise ships was never a thought. But, to my surprise, narrating on cruise ships opened in an unbelievable way. I loved every single minute on the ships. In this capacity, I narrated and presented Alaska programs for over 200 Alaskan Cruises. As the future unfolds, you may find me narrating yet again on an Alaskan cruise ship. Even though I no longer narrate “full time” on cruise ships, I continue to “fill in” on the cruise ships several weeks during each Alaska cruise season.

My husband and I host pilgrimages to Israel (now a total of 12). As a result of narrating in Alaska as well as our Israel pilgrimages, narration positions in other world sites opened for my husband and me. These provide opportunities to continue acquainting ourselves with more destinations around the world.

Early in 2013 my husband and I retired and volunteered to teach one semester in a South African college.  Initially, we intended to stay in Africa for three months. Once again, though, circumstances changed for the better, and we ended up visiting 16 different African countries over a period of six years! Africa literally stole our hears, and we return as often as possible! After we thought we were finished visiting Africa, in the spring of 2022 we were able to return for yet another visit. On this visit, we visited Zimbabwe (where we were several times earlier) as well as Rwanda and Liberia for the first time. Presently, we have visited 18 different African countries. Our visits are not the typical tours visits, but rather we visit the “real” Africa, staying in African homes and eating African food
